Koninklijke Vopak N.V. (Royal Vopak) has announced that it will begin constructing the new Vopak Terminal Linkeroever for the storage and transhipment of liquid chemicals in Antwerp (Belgium) in February 2007. After the environmental permit was issued recently, Vopak made a start on the preparatory groundwork. Phase 1 of the new terminal, with a storage capacity of 100,000 cbm (divided over 60 tanks), will be operational in the second quarter of 2008. The capacity of the entire terminal will be 400,000 cbm.

Located at the Verrebroek dock, on the left bank of the Scheldt in the Port of Antwerp, the new terminal will feature innovative truck and railway gantries, as well as piping systems that ensure the efficient and safe movement of liquid chemicals. Adjoining deep water, the first phase of the terminal will have one jetty for ocean-going vessels and two for barges and/or coasters.

With the construction of this terminal, Vopak is responding to the increasing import of chemical products into Europe. It will also further the ongoing process of terminal specialisation in the ARA area (Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp). Activities at Vopak Terminal Linkeroever will concentrate on the distribution of liquid chemicals by truck.
