 WeConnect project team

Alemoa is one of the oldest districts of Santos (Brazil), where more than 50% of the population are young people. They are growing up in a situation of social vulnerability. The overall objective of this WeConnect project is to promote the social and sustainable development of Alemoa through a structured plan to empower the young people in the local community.

The project focuses on a group of 56 young people (aged 10-24) and aims to improve their future opportunities.

The program consists of three additional parts:

  • A football project based on the 14 rules of Johan Cruyff, as a means to develop important social and communal values;
  • A program to learn about the impacts of discrimination, racism, and the importance of freedom, democracy, and respect;
  • An English and Spanish language course by foreign university students through an official organization that works with exchange students.

Partners

The project will be carried out together with AIESEC, the Instituto Plataforma Brasil, the Johan Cruyff Foundation and the Anne Frank House.

The program started in December 2017 with the necessary preparatory activities, such as collecting data, organizing meetings, preliminary visits to the community and partners of the project and exploratory research. The first activities with the students will take place in the months of March or April 2018.
