23 March 2006
Earlier this year Dutch Royal Vopak, the world’s leading tank terminal operator specialising in the storage and handling of liquid and gaseous chemical and oil products, moved its head office for the Latin American region from Miami (USA) to Buenos Aires (Argentina). Following this move, the division is now ideally situated to further improve and increase its activities in Latin America.

Eelco Hoekstra, President of Vopak Latin America: ‘Vopak is actively looking at opportunities for increasing its market presence in Latin America. By moving our divisional head office to Argentine, we expect to be even more in touch with developments on this continent and further improve the
service to our regional and local customers.’

Buenos Aires was chosen among different candidate cities because of the large pool of talented work force, the connectivity by air to all Latin American countries and the accessibility of the city.

At the moment, Vopak Latin America operates 13 tank terminals in 8 countries. Currently a project team is studying the technical and commercial aspects of Vopak’s first Argentine tank terminal.
Eelco Hoekstra: ‘Last year, we acquired 55 hectare of land next to the Rio Parana for the development of a chemical and oil terminal. Zarate is situated at 100 kilometres inland from Buenos Aires and has excellent road, rail and deep water connections to optimally serve the (petro)chemical industry of Argentina and the edible and mineral oils markets.’

Vopak will release more specific details concerning the terminal project and the date of commissioning at a later stage.
