Rotterdam, the Netherlands, 9 January 2006
Former Vopak CEO Carel van den Driest has today been named ‘Man of the Port 2005’.
‘The Rotterdam Harbour Press Club ‘Kyoto’ recognises his valuable contributions to the port development. Van den Driest started his career in 1974 at Van Ommeren and was appointed Chairman of the Executive Board in 1991. During the merger with Pakhoed he stepped down, but was asked to return to Vopak in 2002. Under his leadership Vopak became the company that was envisaged at the time of the merger’, Ton Olde Monnikhof, chairman of ‘Kyoto’, memorised at the award ceremony.
