Starting at Vopak
Once recruited, most often you will start in one of our operating companies in your home country. We expect you to contribute to our business right from the start. Your professional and personal development will be supported by training & development programs, on and off the job training and by means of coaching by a senior manager. Vopak actively encourages you to continue your professional education all through your career.
During your first 1 - 2 years with Vopak, you may be seconded to different positions within the organization. To ensure that mutual expectations and ambitions are satisfied, your performance and development will be closely monitored by means of regular performance reviews and appraisals.

Further career
Vopak has no fixed career paths. When you come to work at Vopak, you take charge of your own career, in line with your ambitions and the opportunities that will certainly come your way.

Depending on your professional expertise, your performance and your competencies you will move within Vopak. This may be within your own operating company or division, but it is likely that you will move between divisions, or even cross borders to fulfil an international assignment.
You may even cross from your discipline to another, if this meets your ambitions and development needs. As a matter of course, your line management and human resources management will be closely involved in your career steps, assisting you in your further professional development.

Vopak aims to realize a systematic internal succession planning for the key management positions of the company based on regular planning cycles, and systematic development training and coaching activities.
We feel that assessment and exposure of our in-house management potential is important to meet the ever-changing needs of the organization and the career wishes and aspirations of our future managers.
If you show in your jobs and performance that you possess the right qualities and competencies to become a future successful leader, you may eventually move into a general management position.

Training & Development
Your professional and personal development will be supported by training & development programs and on and off the job training activities. Training activities take place at various levels, both on a personal level (managing yourself), on an organizational level (managing others) and on a (Vopak) business level (managing a business).
Training activities within Vopak are therefore a mix of corporate programs, de-centrally (divisional) organized programs, and tailor made training programs geared towards your own personal or professional training needs.
Together with the Rotterdam School of Management, Vopak has developed specialized corporate programs to cover subjects going well beyond day-to-day activities and forming part of our strategic challenges, aiming to develop and strengthen our desired corporate culture as well as cross-divisional relationships and networks.
