Stakeholder Engagement

At Vopak, we maintain an open information policy for stakeholders interested in keeping track of our status, financial or otherwise. In line with that, we plan to engage in a well-structured stakeholder dialogue regarding our sustainability policy. We will use the results of this dialogue to further develop policy.

The first step in implementing a constructive stakeholder dialogue involves identifying the impact of our activities on our surroundings and our stakeholders.

The next step involves identifying stakeholders of particular importance to Vopak based on their influence, legitimacy, and level of engagement. In other words, the greater the potential influence and perceived legitimacy, the more important we consider that stakeholder, and the closer the contact with that stakeholder will be. The exact outcome of this analysis will differ from one division to another and will change over time.

We will maintain our stakeholder dialogues on three levels:

Daily Contact
This is the primary ongoing process in which customers, employees and suppliers meet every day to share important information.

Furthermore, Vopak carries out about 600 audits each year among customers and regulatory authorities. These are for the purposes of insurance, corporate internal audits, terminal health assessment, and post-implementation reviews. The audits provide a continuous source of suggestions to improve our safety, services, and operations.

Regular Contact
We maintain regular contact with neighbors, local and general authorities, and investors. By holding more than 250 road shows and other events, we can demonstrate our transparency to all these groups.

Annual Contact
We want to have contact every year with a great variety of communities including our local neighbors, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), sustainability organizations, and ministries of foreign affairs in the countries where we operate. We plan to create this contact by staggering similar surveys over the entire year throughout our network. The aim of these sustainability surveys is to verify the implementation of the suggestions, remarks and considerations we have received concerning operational and policy level.

To make the best possible use of input from our stakeholders, we will implement an annual rotation system based on the relevance of the stakeholders and subject matter. In turn, the results of these dialogues will have a direct effect on the issue at hand.
